Kecskemétfilm has been considered one of the leading studios of Hungarian animation both in our country and abroad since 1971. Since its existence it has produced several hundreds of films - partly as independent works, partly in cooperation with famous European studios - which have won dozens of awards at various international festivals. It has participated in the production of such three productions, which later were nominated for an Oscar (The Secret of Kells, Chico & Rita, The Red Turtle).

From 1995 the major part of the company is owned by its employees. The united creative staff and the permanent management serve the full vertical chain of film production in a harmonic cooperation and in a family-like environment. In the selection of the company employing 100-150 independent intellectually employed workers in addition to the permanent colleagues artistic shorts, series, animated feature films, educational films and advertisement spots play a major role.

The rights of the studio’s films have been sold in close to 100 countries of the world, so they are also known in the most distant corner of the Earth.

Apart from the Hungarian Folk Tales the three series of Water Spider, Wonder Spider also brought great success, which were shown on the screen in 45 countries. A series was also born from the adaptations of old Hungarian stories with a title Legends from Hungarian History. The series titled Tales of King Mathias is also built on the heritage of the past.

On the initiative and in the organisation of the studio the Kecskemét Animation Film Festival took off in 1985, which has been organised biannually since 2005 (www.kaff.hu).

In 2011, the work of the creative community celebrating its 40th birthday at that time was acknowledged with a Hungarian Heritage Award.
